The King’s Warriors Varsity Club soccer team traveled to Lynchburg, VA, on Saturday, August 25, to take on the Timberlake Christian School Tornadoes to kick off their fall soccer campaign. Chance Blevins started off the season just like he started this past spring season – he scored two goals to lead the King’s Warriors to a 3-0 win. He was supported up front by forwards Aaron Smith and Aliena Bezek. Matt Smith, the King’s Warriors captain and only senior, dominated the field from his center midfielder position. He was backed up by defensive midfielders Billie Dicken and Sarah Spurgin. Goalkeeper Jack Spurgin posted a clean sheet in the season opener with the shutout. While he made several saves and helped start several good offensive attacks, his defensive line protected him well for most of the afternoon. Center backs Andrew Smith and Harleigh Ellison controlled the middle, while outside backs Caleb Okes and Zach Brown controlled the flanks and supported the offense. Okes scored the King’s Warriors other goal in the first half. Additional players helping the team effort included Timmy Perkins, Greg Angell, Bryson Redmon, and Josh Okes.
The team now has two to weeks to work on some weak sports before going on to High Point, NC, for a double-header on Saturday, Sept. 8. The King’s Warriors will be taking on the High Point Home School Association team at 1:00pm, followed by Shining Light Academy at 4:00pm.
