King’s Warriors Soccer Club 2022-2023 in Review

Updated: Nov 24, 2023

FALL 2022

With many of our top players gone from the line up, the fall, 2022 season began a period of rebuilding for the King’s Warriors. A very young team didn’t notch many wins, but improvement was visible.

KWSC combined with Boys Home for a tournament in Tazewell, VA, on August 13, 2022, and defeated Tazewell 6-0 and Wise County 8-2. They then suffered a string of losses: 7-1 against Mercer Christian (8/23); 4-1 against MCA (9/15); 4-1 against Ignite at Boys Home (9/17); 3-1 against Lewisburg Baptist Academy (9/20); 4-2 against Lewisburg (10/8). The King’s Warriors came in 4th place in the 2nd Annual Bella Vista Futbol Tournament. Their final match was close, ending in a 0-0 tie with Lewisburg. Lewisburg won the penalty kick shootout 4-2.

The King’s Warriors then traveled to Dayton, TN for their 11th straight NACA Championships, November 2-4. Combined with players from Boys Home, they presented a good effort. They lost their first match to the eventual D3 champions 5-4, then beat Rhea County 5-2. They lost the final match 3-2.

The fall team was led by senior goalkeeper Aaron Smith.

FUTSAL SEASON

After a short break, the team began indoor play. The 5/6 grade team was very good, 2nd in their division. The 7/8 grade team was made up of our girls. Unfortunately there were no other female teams in that division. They added a couple of boys. While they were very competitive, they did not win any games. The 9-12 girls (which included several of our 7/8 girls) was very strong, even though they didn’t win a lot. With everyone back for several more years, they have the makings of a dynasty. Our 9-12 grade boys fielded a D2 team due to youth and inexperience. They went undefeated and were the top team in D2.

SPRING 2023

The King’s Warriors opened their outdoor campaign March 14 with a 5-1 win over Narrows High School in the coldest game many had ever been a part of. It was a night game; temperature was in the 20’s, with wind chill in the teens. Chance Blevins and Clay Allen each scored 2, and Aaron Smith added 1. KWSC then lost to Boys Home March 30 5-3, and tied Onward Christian Academy 2-2 March 31. Oak Hill Academy defeated the King’s Warriors 4-3 April 1st. Jefferson Christian Academy won their April 22 match 4-3. The Warriors played in a tournament at Boys Home April 29. They lost 3-1 to Boys Home, but then had to immediately play a fresh Onward Christian Academy team, losing 7-0. Boys Home won a third match on May 6 4-1. The King’s Warriors then split with Marlinton in a double header, May 13 winning 1-0, then losing the 2nd match 4-1. Jefferson Christian again defeated KWSC May 20. The King’s Warriors closed out the Spring, 2023, season with a double header against Marlinton on June 3. They lost the first game by a single goal, then tied the final game 4-4.

The young King’s Warriors never gave up, and their efforts will pay off in seasons to come.
